Ground Beef Qeema Samosa Recipe

There is nothing more satisfying than biting into a crispy samosa filled with spicy ground beef. These are a must to stock in the freezer for a snack or an addition to any meal.

I always keep un-fried samosas in my freezer for a crispy, spicy snack with tea or during Ramadan to serve at Iftar with tamarind or green chutney for dipping.

Do make these one day when you have time on your hands. They are enjoyed by adults and children and worth all the effort!

SERVES

25

TOTAL TIME

2 Hours

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 kg/2lbs ground beef

  • Oil for cooking

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste

  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste

  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder

  • A handful of fresh coriander

  • 4 green chilies or to taste (I like it spicy)

  • 1 packet samosa strips

METHOD

  1. In a medium pot, heat oil and fry onions on medium heat until golden brown.

  2. Add garlic and ginger pastes and sauté for a few minutes.

  3. Add ground beef and fry on high heat for 15 minutes.

  4. Add salt and red chili powder and cook, covered on low heat for 20 minutes.

  5. Blend coriander and green chilies to a paste and add to ground beef. Cool completely before making samosas.

  6. Keep samosa strips covered with a damp tea towel as you fold your samosas. Follow folding instructions on package.

  7. Mix 2 tablespoons flour with some water to make a gluey paste to seal the edges of the samosa strips.

  8. Lay filled and sealed samosas on a baking sheet keeping them covered with a tea towel.

  9. Deep fry samosas or freeze for later.

Tips and Bits

You can make these with ground chicken, lamb or mutton.

You can add some veggies, lentils or shredded cheese to the filling.

You can freeze samosas on a baking sheet with plastic or wax paper in between layers. Once frozen, store in freezer bags.

I like to sprinkle chat masala on my samosas which can be found in any South Asian grocery store.
