Kiri Cheese Buns Recipe
These soft buns stuffed with Kiri cheese are a favorite in my house during Ramadan.
Kiri cheese is cream cheese packaged in individually wrapped square portions. It's great for cooking savory and sweet recipes.
I remember when I first moved to Dubai there were billboards advertising Kiri cheese and photos of foods made with it. I love cheese so I was excited seeing mouthwatering photos of spring rolls and buns stuffed with Kiri.
I will share the spring rolls recipe soon but today I'd like to share the recipe for these delicious buns. They come together in no time at all and are great for breakfast, lunch, tea or a snack so please give them a try.

SERVES

TOTAL TIME
1 Hour 45 Minutes
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
1 cup warm full fat milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 1/2—3 cups all purpose flour
3 tablespoons butter, melted
10 squares full fat Kiri cream cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons sesame seeds (optional)
METHOD
In a bowl, mix yeast, milk and sugar and set aside until frothy.
In another bowl mix salt, baking powder and 2 1/2 cups flour.
Add yeast mixture to flour mixture and knead together in a mixer or by hand.
Add melted butter and knead until a soft, smooth dough is formed. You may need to add the 1/2 cup remaining flour, a tablespoon at a time, if dough is too sticky.
Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel. Rest in a warm place to rise for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 180C/350F.
Punch down and knead dough until smooth.
Make 10 balls and flatten out to place a Kiri cheese square in the center of each one.
Pinch the dough around the cheese to form a bun.
Place on baking sheet, brush with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).
Let rise for 1/2 hour.
Bake 20 minutes until puffed up and light brown.
Tips and Bits
You can make these smaller and stuff with half the cheese square.
Use any firm cream cheese if Kiri is not available.
